Job title
Emerging markets advisor
Background
At Larive International, Pieter van Dalen supports private sector development and sustainable growth strategies in emerging markets across Asia, Africa, and Central and Eastern Europe as an emerging markets advisor. In this role, he combines his interests in international collaboration and negotiations, sustainability, and strategic policy to help clients navigate complex market environments.
Pieter brings extensive hands-on experience in international research and diplomacy. During his Master’s programme at Wageningen University, he conducted fieldwork in Colombia, studying how policy entrepreneurs and power dynamics influence environmental conservation efforts in the Bogotá River headwaters. He also worked with the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the UN in Rome, where he contributed to strategic policy engagement with organisations such as FAO, WFP, and IFAD. In this role, he focused particularly on cooperation and communication between Dutch embassies in Africa and local UN offices.
His broader professional development includes stakeholder engagement work at TenneT and leadership roles within international student organisations such as AIESEC. With international experience spanning Colombia, Russia, Italy, and China, Pieter has developed strong cross-cultural skills and an adaptive, analytical mindset. These experiences have shaped his ability to bridge policy, business, and sustainability challenges in a global context.
